Recently, Walmart launched a free, secure and frictionless digital wallet to enable consumer digital access to their health pass data, particularly their COVID-19 vaccine record. It indicates that the usage scale of digital health passport is expanding, not merely at transportation and tourist industry.
What is Walmart digital health wallet?
The Walmart digital health wallet, or called a digital health record, is a free digital version of the vaccine cards issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It contains an individual’s name, date of birth, vaccination date, vaccine manufacturer, vaccine lot number, and vaccinated location.
The digital vaccine record will be available to people age 18 and older that vaccinated at Walmart or Sam’s Club pharmacy, or a Walmart-run vaccine event. Moreover, people can print their record, save, share or request to receive it as a QR code through their Walmart or Sam's Club online account.
Is that digital health wallet secure?
It was reported that Walmart uses the open, interoperate SMART Health Cards standard defined by the Vaccination Credential Initiative. That means the digital vaccine record can be safely and privately shared with other compatible services if people choose, following all HIPAA privacy guidelines.
What is the significance of digital health wallets?
The digital health wallet makes people have a right to freely and safely access their digital health records and puts the power in their hands about whether they want to share their results and a convenient way to prove their vaccination or health status. With such health pass proof, people can successfully return to travel, work, school, sports events, entertainment, and other venues while protecting their health data privacy.
What the current status of digital health records?
Walmart is not the only one to launch digital health records. At the beginning of this year, European Commission advocated countries should launch a digital health record – now called the EU Digital Covid Certificate. According to the incomplete statistics, China rolled out a health code mini-program, California unveiled a digital COVID-19 vaccine record portal, New York introduced Excelsior pass and Germany tried to roll out its digital vaccine certificate “CovPass”.
Telpo Health Control and Verification Cases
Digital health record case
Nowadays, digital health records have already widely used in China as health pass proof. Driven by the vaccination verification demand, Telpo health verification devices are widely used at communities, offices, subways, buses, hospitals, sports centers, healthcare centers, and other places.
When people enter the detection area and show their digital health record, the machine will activate QR code technology to verify the reality of vaccination information in no more than a second. As the scanned data will be matched with the approved platform, thus individual’s identity, COVID-19 test result, and vaccination or immunization details can be accurately validated.
Therewith, the individual’s verification result will be displayed on the screen along with a voice broadcast. Importantly, there are various kinds of health verification devices, and they are in line with GDPR compliant framework, enhancing individual privacy information security to some extent.
