According to the British "Daily Mail" reported on July 11th, 2018, starting this month, Marriott International Hotel Group will cooperate with Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group to introduce face recognition technology for the hotel check-in service, and open the "brush face" occupancy era. This service will be tested first at Marriott's two hotels in China, and guests can queue up in advance to successfully check-in within one minute.
Under normal circumstances, the registration time for manual counters is at least 3 minutes, and face recognition technology will help guests queue up in advance and shorten the registration process to less than one minute. Chinese guests need to scan their ID cards and take photos and enter contact information on the kiosk. The self-service device will distribute the card after verifying the identity and booking information. Brushing the face will be the first to appear at the Marriott Hotel in Hangzhou Qianjiang New Town and the Marriott Hotel in Sanya, and will gradually be extended to the global network of Marriott International.
The face recognition program works by matching real-time images to previously-stored portrait photos. Experts believe that face recognition technology will soon replace fingerprint recognition technology and become the most effective way of identity recognition.
